Hello everyone,

Happy Thanksgiving!
~Virginia M.~
We had a meeting last week and will not have a meeting this week. Here are some things we covered during the meeting. We changed the meeting times to Tuesdays at 4:15pm and they seem to be working very well.
- There will be no meeting this week.
- The float seemed to begin to get in the way of the show installation and finals so we decided not to do the float. However we still will be participating in the parade. The new idea is to take the decorations we have and create a x-mas scene outside the media arts building.
The club will be serving hot chocolate. We will need everyone to help make and serve the hot chocolate. The scene we create will not be lit till the night of the parade. - We will meet on Tuesday December 1, 2009 to begin decorating the tree and outside. We will finish the decorating throughout the week as we have free time. December 5, 2009 we will finish decorating and help with the show installation. That night we will prepare for the parade.
- The show installation will be December 5, 2009 and the Media Arts Biannual show will be December 7, 2009. We will be helping with the installation that day! Also we will need everyone to sign up for food prep, set up, show assistance during the show and clean up. Remember the show gets bigger each time. We want to make it as nice as possible.
- Our schedules will change so we will need a new meeting time for next semester. Everyone please email me the best time for you to meet.
- All Juniors and Seniors asking about the Dale Basler Scholarship please see Mary for all the details.
- Congrats to all media arts students recognized in on the NMHU website! Good Job everyone!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi everyone,
I have some new updates for everyone!
1. We have students that would like to be a part of the club but can not make the meetings on Friday. So, we are trying something new this week. The meeting will be held twice this week to allow new members to attend and be able to create a schedule that will work for everyone the rest of the school year. Date will be Tuesday November 10, 2009 and the Time will be 12:15pm till 12:50pm and 4:15pm till 4:50pm. Please try to make one of these times.
2. The raffles are ready and I will hand them out at the meeting this week. We have three prizes and are selling the tickets for $1.00 each. The drawing will be held the day of the Media Arts show.
3. The final club/organization meeting for this semester will be held December 4, 2009 at noon. I want all the officers to attend this meeting. This is very important! If you can not make this meeting please let me know. Also any members interested in representing the club may attend.
4. We have enough volunteers to move forward with the float but we need ideas. I emailed everyone a list of decorations and some float ideas. Please take a look at these and email me your ideas and information if you know other places for decorations.
5. Preview of what we have done this semester: Homecoming float, Halloween party, Halloween decorations for Media Arts Dept., donated $50 to recycling program, donated $50 to Out of the Ashes, offered video & photography services to Out of the Ashes, Participated in Out of the Ashes, attended Art:21, attended Site Santa Fe opening of "Talking pictures" and began the raffle.
6. Preview of upcoming events: Decorate the Christmas Light Parade float and the Media Arts Show.
7. We will be having a Christmas party at Mary's and will be having another one this year. I will give everyone the details at the next meeting.
I am thankful for everyone's hard work and dedication. To thank everyone I thought we could have a night of Pizza, games and movies! What we have done in the past is bring in our game consoles and set them up in the fireplace. Also we have set up the playstation in room 100 and played on the big screen. It was lots of fun! If you are interested please email me a day and time you think would be best or let me know at the next meeting. Also if we can not have the game night this semester cause it is so close to finals we can also have it as a welcome back next semester.
I am attaching a few pictures to look back on the new semester.
See you at the next meeting!

October 10, 2009 - January 10, 2010
Public Opening Friday, October 9, 5 - 7 pm
Since the wide acceptance of video as an artistic medium in the 1990s, artists have put it to many uses including videos that resemble abstract paintings, videos that form parts of sculptures, videos that tell stories, and videos that are largely still images. One of the strongest recurring qualities in video art is a focus on the isolation and expansion of various forms of human communication.
Talking Pictures examines this quality, intrinsic to a medium that unfolds over time in images and sound. For example, the artists Diller + Scofidio, in their large projection Soft Sell from 1993, isolate red lips enticing the viewer with questions such as “Hey you, wanna buy something for nothing?” and “Hey you, wanna buy some motherly love?” Projected on a grand scale, this desirous mouth communicates with riveting efficacy, inducing wants in us we didn’t know we had.
